Little League District 3 tournament play continued this week with Prospect and Union City little leagues enjoying the most success of the local teams.

Prospect’s victory in the 9- and 10-year-old baseball tournament championship capped an undefeated run through the tournament, beating Derby, Shelton National, and twice Seymour, including a 1-0 victory in the final.

Prospect will begin sectional tournament play against North Stamford Wednesday at Milford National. It will then play games on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. If it places first or second in pool play, it will advance to the championship on July 18 for the chance to advance to the state championship series.

The only other local team still alive is the Union City 11- and 12-year-old baseball squad.

After losing its first game of the tournament to Seymour on July 1, Union City has reeled off three wins in a row while facing elimination. UCLL beat Peter J. Foley, 4-3, last Thursday, before knocking out Derby, 6-4, last Saturday and bouncing Shelton American, 9-6, on Monday.

Union City will face Shelton National Wednesday night with a trip to the championship on the line. Seymour awaits the winner.

Robert A. Cole was also knocked out of the 11- and 12-year-old tournament last week with consecutive losses to Derby (12-5) and Ansonia (9-2). Prospect lost its first two games of the same tournament, falling to Shelton American and PJF to be eliminated.

Union City also competed in the 10- and 11-year-old baseball and 9- and 10-year-old softball tournaments. The baseball squad was eliminated by losing its first two games of the tournament to Seymour and Shelton American.

The softball team reached the tournament championship after beating Oxford, 10-5, in an elimination game last Tuesday. Union City lost to Seymour in the title game.
