NAUGATUCK – Naugatuck High senior quarterback-defensive back Jett Hall will be heading to the Division II University of New Haven in the fall.
The Naugatuck Valley League’s Most Outstanding Senior last season is unsure of the position that he will ultimately play for the Chargers.
Hall said the coaching staff will evaluate him during training camp this summer on whether he will play on the offensive side as quarterback, running back or receiver and possibly as a defensive back.
“I’m going there as an athlete,” said Hall. “I had some other opportunities, but this was the best option for me. I received a good offer and I’m excited to get going.”
The 5-foot-11, 195-pound Hall had an All-State senior season after being moved to quarterback from tailback by head coach Chris Anderson.
Hall passed for 1,031 yards and 15 touchdowns and also rushed for 1,478 yards and 20 touchdowns in leading the Greyhounds to the NVL championship for the second time in three seasons.
“I’m definitely feeling pretty strong and it’s probably the most athletic I’ve been and that is a good thing,” said Hall, who will run the sprints and compete in the long jump and triple jump in the spring for the Greyhounds’ boys track team.
Hall had a sensational sophomore year as a tailback but as a junior, he was injured in his first game and was sidelined for the majority of the season. His comeback last fall was electric right from the outset as he used his speed and instinctive running style to his advantage. He displayed precision in the aerial game in helping the Greyhounds to the their third-straight playoff appearance.
“Honestly this past season and my career was scripted like a movie,” said Hall. “This whole last year I was destined to have an unforgettable, awesome experience, something I will never forget. When practice began, I was determined 100% to lead this group. I was locked-in and super determined to have some fun.”
Hall will be joined at UNH by a trio of NVL players – Ansonia tight end-defensive end Preston Dziubina, who signed in February, former Chargers’ tailback David Cassetti, now a freshman running back, and Derby’s Gio Vicens, a freshman offensive lineman.
Also on the roster are Cheshire’s Chisom Okoro, a junior defensive lineman, and New Hartford’s Josh Hamel, a junior punter-place kicker who transferred from American International College.
