Naugatuck Savings Bank announced Tony Scafariello is the branch manager of the bank’s new Wallingford branch office. Scafariello, of Wallingford, previously was employed at Sovereign Bank in Wethersfield as vice president and holds a bachelor degree in economics from Southern Connecticut State University. Three dozen Naugatuck High School Air Force Junior ROTC cadets recently cleaned the east riverbank of the Naugatuck River in Linden Park in Naugatuck led by Master Sgt. Gary Morrone, USAF (ret) and Lt. Col. Valerie Lofland, USAF (ret). This the sixth time this group has completed conservation projects along the Naugatuck River. More than a dozen bags of light debris, several shopping carts and tires, a rug, pieces of board and rusted metal debris were removed. The project was organized by Joe Savarese and Bob Gregorski of the Naugatuck River Watershed Association and sponsored by the borough of Naugatuck including the Mayor’s office, public works and recreation departments. The children at Naugatuck Day Care recently welcomed Bill Gloade, who’s Indian name is Mi’kmaq, to the center. Gloade talked to the children about his tribe, Native American history, culture, and dancing. Gloade taught the children and staff an authentic Indian dance. Gloade’s visit was to celebrate November being American Indian Heritage Month. -CONTRIBUTED

Senior Girl Scouts from Troop 64538 presented a time capsule Oct. 28 at the Grange Hall in Prospect to Waterbury Girl Scout council representative Carmen Richtarich. The senior scouts from Beacon Falls and Prospect have been working on their Sisterhood Journey and chose to do a time capsule as their project in celebration of the 100th year anniversary of Girl Scouts. As part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Brownies and Juniors of Girl Scout Troop 64558 brought a little pink to Laurel Ledge Elementary School Oct. 19. At their October meeting, they made pink ribbons and distributed them to the entire staff at Laurel Ledge to wear. The scouts in Region 16 organized a ‘Girl Scouts Go Pink’ and encouraged staff and classmates to join them in wearing pink for the day. -CONTRIBUTED
Members of the Naugatuck High School marching band perform for students at Cross Street Intermediate School in Naugatuck Oct. 26. The band took its fall competitive show on tour entertaining students from Cross Street, Maple Hill, Salem, Hillside, Andrew Avenue, and Western schools.
