NAUGATUCK — A New York-based awnings manufacturer recently purchased a roughly 57,000-square-foot commercial building on Spring Street.
Orangeburg, N.Y.-based Dean Custom Awnings, operating under the name 550 Spring Street LLC, bought the 57,520-square-foot building at 550 Spring St. for $1.2 million on Feb. 27.
According to the company’s website, Dean Custom Awnings manufactures and installs awnings.
Naugatuck Economic Development Corporation President and CEO Ronald Pugliese said the company plans to use to building for manufacturing and warehousing, and the building offers the company the possibility to expand.
“We are very excited about them coming into town,” Pugliese said.
Pugliese said the company plans to begin moving into the building in late April or the beginning of May.
Dean Custom Awnings representatives could not be reached for comment.
Dean Custom Awning purchased the building from Ralph Minervino and Patrick Guarino, who co-owned Multi-Metal Manufacturing, a screw machine company formerly located in the building. They bought the building in 2001.
Pugliese said Minervino and Guarino sold the building because they were retiring and closing their company.
In order to help Dean Custom Awnings get settled into the borough, Pugliese is setting up a meeting between the company and the state’s Department of Economic and Community Development in early April.
Pugliese said he’s hoping to talk about the possibility of a tax abatement from the state and to develop a good working relationship with the company.
This is the second New York-based business that announced it will open a location in Naugatuck in 2018.
In November, Pugliese said the Brooklyn, N.Y.-based metal fabrication business Kammetal Inc. plans to relocate to Naugatuck, bringing an estimated 60 jobs.
“That’s two New York companies moving to Naugatuck in one year. To me that is a big deal,” Pugliese said.
