NAUGATUCK — Fire officials are investigating a series of small brush fires that could have been intentionally set Sunday between 5 p.m. and midnight near the Waterbury line.
Fire crews were called to three fires on Sheridan Drive in the industrial park, Capt. Vincent Healy said. Passersby called the department quickly and the flames did not cover a large area, Healy said.
William Scanlon, the acting deputy fire marshal, said the fires were a short distance apart on the right side of the road heading toward Waterbury. There was no indication of how they were lit, Scanlon said. Firefighters also responded to a brush fire on Platts Mill Road near Radnor Avenue, Healy said.
Waterbury also responded to some brush fires at the same time and Scanlon said he plans to collaborate with city fire marshals.
