Schools honored
NAUGATUCK — Two borough schools, Hop Brook Elementary School and Andrew Avenue Elementary school were both regonized as 2021-2022 Schools of Distinction at the Naugatuck Board of Education meeting on June 8.
Hop Brook Elementary School was a school of distinction for being in the top 10% of high growth for both the whole school and for students with high needs. Andrew Avenue Elementary School was in the top 10% of all state schools in high growth for needs in math, Superintendent of Schools Christopher Montini said.
Concerts begin
BEACON FALLS — Town summer concerts have begun on Wednesdays on St. Michaels Green at 6 p.m. all summer long and with weather permitting.
Beacon Falls Park and Recreation Commission is presenting the summer concert series which started on June 21 and will run until Aug. 16.
St. Michael’s Mens Club will be selling food. People are advised to bring their own chairs and blankets.
Summer music
PROSPECT — The town summer concert series on the town green will run until Aug. 23. The concerts will take place from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. on Wednesdays. All concerts are free of charge and all ages are welcome
Fireworks July 3
NAUGATUCK – The borough will hold its annual fireworks on July 3 at Naugatuck High School. The rain date for the fireworks is Friday, July 7.
Administrator shifting
NAUGATUCK — Andrew Avenue Elementary School Principal Lisa LaChance will be returning back to City Hill Middle School as its newest principal in the fall of 2023.
LaChance was an assistant principal at City Hill Middle School from 2013 to 2017 and a social worker at Naugatuck High School from 2007 to 2013.
LaChance said the Naugatuck Board of Education meeting on June 8 that she was sad to leave Andrew Avenue but honored to begin this opportunity to lead a community where she will have a laser focus on student growth both academically and social emotionally.
The next principal for Andrew Avenue Elementary School has yet to be determined, Board of Education Chairman Jeff Litke said.
