PROSPECT — Mr. Delphio J. Sampieri, Jr., 88, of Prospect died Monday, July 18, 2016 at St. Mary’s Hospital. He was the husband of Sophie (DuBicki) Sampieri.

Mr. Sampieri was born Nov. 1, 1927 in Waterbury, a son of the late Delphio Sampieri, Sr. and the late Edna (Palmer) Sampieri. He attended school in Waterbury and Prospect and worked as a truck driver for Brass City Express and Toce Fowler for many years and was a communicant of St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church, where he also served as an usher for 23 years. After his retirement he established his own produce business and also worked for Zentek Farms in Cheshire. He loved to hunt, fish, shoot trap and travel. His favorite hobby was waiting on customers at his produce stand. He also served on the Charter Change Commission to change the Town of Prospect Charter from first selectman to town mayor and was a justice of the peace.

Mr. Sampieri proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army 1st Constabulary Squadron. He was also a member of the Connecticut National Guard and the Connecticut State Guard.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Sampieri is survived by two sons, Paul Sampieri and his wife Marie of Prospect and Tom Sampieri and his wife Susan of Litchfield; two sisters, Elizabeth Lee of Naugatuck and Barbara Brandt of Arizona; a brother, Gerald Sampieri of South Carolina; grandchildren, Daniel Sampieri of Oakville, Brianna Sampieri of San Francisco, Calif. and Danielle Sampieri of Litchfield, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Deborah Sampieri.

Mr. Sampieri’s funeral will be held on Friday, July 22, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. from the Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Road, Prospect to St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church, 4 Union City Road, Prospect for a mass at 11 a.m. Burial with full military honors will be in Prospect Cemetery. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.
