NAUGATUCK — Maria Schimini, 84, died peacefully on Feb. 9, 2018 at Birmingham Health Center in Derby with her loving family by her side.
Maria was born on Oct. 6, 1933 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, daughter of the late Roberto and Ermenia (Fabiano) Schimini, and had lived in Naugatuck for over 20 years. Maria formerly worked as a teacher’s aide and she was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness, Portuguese Congregation in Southington. Maria was her family matriarch and she devoted her life to her family. She loved spending time with her family, especially her cherished grandchildren. Maria will be remembered as a loving and caring woman, who always had a positive attitude about everything throughout her life.
Maria is survived by her daughters, Maria DaSilva and her husband, Olivar DaSilva, and Fatima Goncalves and her husband, Celso Goncalves, all of Naugatuck; her son, Fernando Schimini of Brazil; her grandchildren, Tiago Goncalves, Aline DaSilva, Mateus Goncalves, Rafael Schimini, Gabriella DaSilva, Luis Fernando Schimini, Luis Guilherme Schimini and Nazare DePaula; her great-grandchildren, Sabrina DaSilva, Gustavo DePaula and Olivia DaSilva.
Maria’s family would like to thank the staff at Birmingham Health Center and at Seasons Hospice for the wonderful care and support that they provided.
