NAUGATUCK — Nelson Dean MacDonald Sr., age 58 of Naugatuck, beloved husband of JulieAnn (Scatena) MacDonald, entered peaceful rest on Monday, Dec. 26, 2022, in his home surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous fight with cancer.
Born in Derby on June 7, 1964, he was a son of the late Franklin MacDonald and Beverly (Sandone) Hurlburt of Seymour. Nelson was a loving husband and father who always put family first. He and JulieAnn loved antiquing, going to flea markets and vacationing at Virginia Beach.
They also enjoyed spending time in Florida, where they planned on fulfilling their dream of building a home together. He will be remembered for his love of watching NASCAR, as well as bird watching.
Nelson worked as a fiberglass technician for more than 34 years at H&L Plastics, Conarc and at Boat Works of South Windsor.
In addition to his loving wife of 22 years, JulieAnn, and mother Beverly, survivors include his sons, Nelson D. MacDonald Jr. and Daniel R. MacDonald; siblings, Richard MacDonald, William Christensen, Robin Piekarski and Ellen Oczkowski; mother-in-law Selma Scatena; brother-in-law Timothy Scatena and his wife Linda; as well as several nephews and a niece.
In addition to his father, Nelson was predeceased by his brother, Stian Christensen; his grandson Nelson III; and his father-in-law Rocco Scatena.
Nelson’s family would like to thank Dr. Jason Chang and staff at Hartford HealthCare, as well as home nurses Christina, Jennifer, Larissa and Kasia, for their compassion and support.
Services honoring Nelson’s life were to be on Monday, Jan. 2, 2023, at the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 161 W. Church St., Seymour, CT 06483. Relatives and friends were invited to greet the family from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.; a service was to immediately follow. Burial was to be at the convenience of the family.
