NAUGATUCK — Casimiro Pereira, 89, passed away on Monday, Oct. 29, 2012 at Glendale Healthcare Center surrounded by loving family and care givers. He was the husband of Laura (Ruela) Pereira.
Mr. Pereira was born on Feb. 11, 1923 in Pinheiro da Bemposta, Portugal, a son of the late Domingos da Silva and Eugenia Marques. He came to the USA in 1957 with his young family leaving behind his bakery business, his family and friends. He was retired from Uniroyal Inc. where he worked as a lab technician for many years. He was a member of the Portuguese Club and an active member of the Our Lady of Fatima Church Community.
Casimiro’s main passion was spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren at home, at the beach or visiting family in his beloved Portugal. His other favorite past time was fishing and hunting with his close friends.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Edwin Pereira and his wife Anne of Royal Oak, Mich., Delfim Pereira of Miami, Fla.; one daughter, Maria Pereira Roman and her husband Victor of Naugatuck; one sister, Deolinda Silveira of Lisbon, Portugal; five grandchildren, Robert Pereira and his wife Sara, Vanessa and Daniel Pereira, Cristian and Amanda Roman and two great-granddaughters, Luciana Pereira and Sophie Roman. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Olivia Pereira Cabral and Maria Pereira da Silva and two brothers, Manuel Pereira da Silva and Antonio Pereira da Silva.
The funeral mass will be held on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2071 Baldwin St., Waterbury. Family and friends are asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will be at St. James Cemetery. Friends may call at Buckmiller Funeral Home, 26 Waterbury Road, Prospect, CT 06712, on Friday evening, Nov. 9 from 5 to 8 p.m.
