OAKVILLE — Sandra Jo (Butkus) Kurtz, 64, died unexpectedly on Oct. 20, 2024.
Sandy was born Nov, 10, 1959 in Waterbury, a daughter of Judy Butkus and the late William Butkus. She was raised in Naugatuck and graduated from Naugatuck High School, class of ’77.
Sandy worked as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service, where she was proudly employed for more than 30 years. She was known for her infectious smile and her love of being around people. She made friends everywhere she went, including her four-legged friends.
Sandy loved animals, and after retiring from the postal service in 2019, she started her own dog sitting business. She thoroughly enjoyed this new venture and had a special place in her heart for all of her customers.
Sandy was a huge New York Yankees fan and a new-found San Francisco 49ers fan, thanks to her son-in-law. She enjoyed helping people and spending time with friends and family.
Sandy was a selfless, welcoming, thoughtful woman and a supporting, encouraging and loving mother. She was a proud grandmother, who never missed an opportunity to tell her granddaughters that she loved them.
Sandy is survived by her mother, Judy Butkus of Naugatuck; her daughter and son-in-law, Stacie and Rocky Naccarato of Wallingford; her granddaughters, Hannah and Hadley Naccarato of Wallingford; her sisters, Christine Butkus of Oakville, Bonnie Butkus and Patricia Butkus, both of Naugatuck; her niece Ashley Powers; and many other relatives and friends.
Family and friends were to gather to honor and celebrate Sandy’s life on Friday, Oct. 25, 2024, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck.
In lieu of flowers and to honor Sandy’s memory, donations are requested to Naugatuck Animal Control, 508 Cherry St. Ext., Naugatuck, CT 06770.
